“For me, life is all about balance, and the older (and wiser) I get, the more I truly honor it as it presents itself.” - Eleni
These are some of my favorite exercises and simple lifestyle hacks (in no particular order!) to support my body’s detoxification process and honor my journey toward a balanced lifestyle.
It’s essential to engage in activities and make lifestyle choices that promote detoxification, reduce inflammation, and enhance overall metabolic function (and especially so if you have the MTHFR mutation -- more on that in the next blog!) Since adopting all these in my life with balance I have never felt better. For so long I have been wired to go fast and hard. It has been so fun slowing down and trying new things.
Strength Training (Weightlifting or Bodyweight Exercises)

Strength training builds muscle mass, which can improve metabolic function, stabilize blood sugar levels, and support overall health. It also improves bone density and hormone balance.
Jazzercise
Jazzercise supports detoxification by boosting circulation, promoting lymphatic flow, and increasing sweating, all of which help eliminate toxins from the body. Come Jazzercise with me! The original dance party workout!
Epsom Salt Baths (If you know me, you know!)
Hot Epsom salt baths relax muscles, promote sweating to release toxins, and deliver magnesium sulfate through the skin to help flush out heavy metals and support liver function. Did you know that magnesium is absorbed 10 times quicker through the skin than when digested! This is a powerful hack.
At night, I also use a magnesium spray on my feet, stomach, or legs! Be warned…the itching and mild burning take some getting used to. So basically…I HEART MAGNESIUM!
Don't have a bathtub? Soaking your feet in a bowl of hot water with Epsom salt can still support detoxification by allowing magnesium to absorb through the skin.

Castor Oil
This gem is one of those simple, underrated tools for supporting the body’s natural detox. Using it as a pack (I just spread this on like butter before I hop in the sauna or steam or even before bed) over the liver area can help get things moving—think better lymph flow, less bloating, and a boost in digestion. It’s super calming too, so it supports the nervous system while helping the body release what it doesn’t need. I literally use this ALL OVER from head to toe. Yes it is sticky, messy but I don't care!
Yoga
Yoga reduces stress, promotes relaxation, and improves circulation. The practice of deep breathing helps enhance oxygen flow to cells, supporting the detoxification process. Certain poses also target the liver and lymphatic system, aiding in detox.
Pilates
Pilates is excellent for improving posture, increasing flexibility, and strengthening the core. It also promotes controlled movements, which can improve overall body awareness and circulation, helping support detox.
Low-Impact Aerobic Exercise (Walking, Cycling, Swimming)
Aerobic exercise helps improve circulation, promotes detoxification through sweating, and reduces inflammation. It also supports heart health, which is crucial for those with MTHFR mutations, as they are more prone to cardiovascular issues.
Stretching and Foam Rolling
Stretching and foam rolling release muscle tension and improve blood flow, which is essential for reducing inflammation and supporting detoxification. It also helps reduce stress, which can exacerbate MTHFR-related symptoms.
Rebounding (Mini Trampoline)
Rebounding is a great way to boost lymphatic flow, stimulate the detox process, and improve circulation without putting stress on the joints. It’s so much fun and can be done in short bursts.
Sauna/Steam
Both saunas and steam rooms are great for detox, relaxation, and overall wellness. For those with MTHFR mutations, these heat therapies help with detoxification, inflammation, circulation, and stress management. Listen to your body and choose what feels best for you. I like to switch it up—sometimes doing half sauna, half steam, or a quick steam after 15-20 minutes in the sauna. Trust your body; it knows what it needs!
Hydration
Drinking plenty of water helps flush toxins through the lymphatic system and supports its natural function. To help hydrate and ensure you are getting the right electrolytes, check out my blog on mineral balancing -- it's critical for electrolyte balance.
Massage
Lymphatic drainage massage is a targeted technique that helps improve circulation and encourage the movement of lymph fluid. Take a trip to Bay Area Brain Spa
Red Light Therapy
Red light therapy supports detoxification by stimulating cellular energy production, which can enhance lymphatic flow and help the body eliminate toxins more efficiently.
Breathing Exercises
Deep breathing exercises help lower stress hormones, reduce inflammation, and improve oxygen flow throughout the body, which supports detoxification.
Dry Brushing/Exfoliating Gloves
You can use exfoliating gloves for dry brushing if you're looking for something more gentle and a great daily exfoliation for your body as well but with the full benefits of lymphatic drainage and blood circulation, a traditional dry brush with firmer bristles is usually the better choice. Don’t make it too complicated!
A few more tips:
Diet: Eat organic, grass-fed foods and leafy greens like spinach, kale, and chard for detox. Avoid gluten, processed sugars, heavy metals, and synthetic folic acid.
Focus on recovery: Prioritize recovery strategies like adequate sleep, hydration, and stress management techniques.
Supplementation: Support your methylation cycle with nutrients like methyl folate, B12 (methylcobalamin), and magnesium, which are crucial for those with MTHFR mutations. Liver support with nutrients like NAC and reduced glutathione. Love me some daily zeolite (eleni10 saves you a few bucks) to support a daily detox. Always consult a healthcare provider before starting any new supplementations.
And remember, this is my journey I’m sharing, and where I’m at, at this present moment. It’s not medical advice or the "end-all-be-all." I’m simply a girl on her quest for homeostasis (balance), sharing my story along the way. And if I can support you on your journey, you know where to find me!
LOVE YOU
