facials help your nervous system

Updated: 3 days ago

I recently had a client tell me that her doctor recommended her to come in for more frequent facials after a trauma she had experienced. Right!? A doctor who actually is working with patients to support their nervous system. God bless. This made me so happy because one of my favorite things I get to do for my clients is make them unwind from the outside world and support  the overload of their nervous system.

While many seek a relaxing facial to enhance skin appearance, I wanted to share with you how its rewards reach far beyond the surface. By cultivating a sense of calm, alleviating stress, and harmonizing hormones, a facial treatment profoundly nurtures the nervous system, enriching overall health and well-being.

Some insight on the process:

  • Stress Reduction: A relaxing facial involves gentle massages, soothing creams, tranquil melodies, and calming scents of essential oils. These elements work together to reduce stress levels by triggering the release of endorphins, the body's natural feel-good hormones. As stress diminishes, the nervous system shifts from a state of fight-or-flight to one of relaxation, promoting a sense of calmness and tranquility.

  • Improved Blood Circulation: Think healthy lymphatic flow here! The massage techniques used during a facial stimulate blood circulation in the face and neck area. Better blood flow means improved oxygen and nutrient delivery to the skin cells, promoting their health and vitality. Additionally, enhanced circulation helps to flush out toxins and reduce inflammation, which can have a positive impact on the nervous system's functioning.

  • Muscle Relaxation: My favorite time during the facial! I LOVE the healing that takes place here. Because tension tends to accumulate in facial muscles due to factors like stress, poor posture, and repetitive facial expressions. A facial massage helps to release this tension by gently kneading and manipulating the muscles. As the facial muscles relax, signals are sent to the brain indicating a state of relaxation, which in turn helps to soothe the nervous system.

  • Balanced Hormones: The sense of touch experienced during a facial triggers the release of oxytocin ("love hormone." ) Oxytocin promotes feelings of trust, relaxation, and emotional bonding. By increasing oxytocin levels, a relaxing facial can help balance hormones and alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression, which are closely linked to the functioning of the nervous system.

  • Mind-Body Connection: LOVE LOVE LOVE! This part of the facial when you can tune into the connection between your mind, body, and Spirit. As you focus on the sensations of touch, scent, and relaxation, you become more aware of your body's signals(frequency) and can actively work towards calming the nervous system. This mindfulness practice can have long-term benefits for managing stress and anxiety outside of the treatment room.

  • Promotes Better Sleep: A relaxing facial can also contribute to improved sleep quality. Those who know me know how I feel about sleep (yes, another post on that soon). By reducing stress and promoting relaxation, it prepares the body for restorative sleep. Quality sleep is ESSENTIAL for maintaining a healthy nervous system, as it allows the body to repair and rejuvenate cells, regulate neurotransmitter levels, and make your memory stronger(BRAIN FUNCTION).

With the world being so busy and constantly on the go, it brings me great joy to offer a service to my clients and provide a space for them to unplug, unwind, just be, and heal in the moment. Their healing brings me healing, and I am forever grateful and blessed for the opportunity to wake up every day and do what I love.
